The weekend of January 23-24, 2016 the Kenosha Komets Bantam A team traveled to New Richmond, WI to face off against teams from western Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Komets played three games in 24 hours to win the Kittel / Parin POW/MIA Memorial Tournament.

The first game against Osseo / Maple Grove was particularly exciting.  At the end of regulation time, the game was tied 4-4 sending us into a shootout.  The five players from each team on the ice as time expired would participate in the shootout with all ten shooting.  Shaw Johnson was the first to score.  Unfortunately, the Osseo / Maple Grove team answered back in the next round.  Things remained tied until the fourth round when Kevin Keating found the top right corner.  This put the Komets back in control.  Dylan Connell was successful blocking their final two shots.  The Komets earned the overtime win.

The team’s second opponent was River Falls.  The final score was 6-0 with five different Komets players all finding the back of the net.  Komets goals were scored by Logan Albright, Ryan Myers, Liam McAloon, David Daavettila, and Shaw Johnson (2).  Chalking up the shutout was goalie Carter Deinhammer.  Great team effort.

The third game for the Komets was against the New Richmond Tigers.  Originally, the two teams were scheduled to play  each other for the regular tournament round on Sunday morning and the Championship game was scheduled for Sunday afternoon.  Based on point totals, the two teams would both advance to the Championship regardless of the outcome of any other remaining games.  The tournament recognized our required travel time and graciously allowed the morning game to be played as the Championship rather than having the two teams play twice.

There was a solid team effort as the Komets controlled the game.  The final score was 6-1.  Players scoring for the Komets were Liam McAloon (2), Shaw Johnson (2), David Daavettila, and Thomas Pinnow.

Shaw Johnson was recognized as the “Offensive Player of the Tournament”.  He scored 6 goals and was credited with 3 assists in the three games played.  Carter Deinhammer received a shutout patch. Congratulations to Shaw and Carter on their individual awards.  Congratulations to the entire team for another great weekend of hockey!  Go Komets!!
